Dreaming of an adventure session at Colchuck Lake?
Before we pack the camera gear, here is what you need to know about this iconic spot:
- The Trek: It’s a steep, grueling 8-mile round-trip hike with 2,300 ft of elevation gain.
- It features rocky switchbacks and a boulder field, so a solid fitness level is a must!
- The Reality: It is incredibly popular. To respect the crowds and protect this fragile ecosystem, we strictly follow Leave No Trace principles (packing out all trash and staying on trails).
- The Prep: You’ll need real hiking shoes, plenty of water, and your layers. We hike up in activewear and change into your photoshoot wardrobe at the lake!
If you're up for the climb, the views (and the photos) are absolutely worth it.
While social media showcases Colchuck Lake’s stunning beauty, viral geotagging often hides the grueling reality of the hike. This draws an influx of unprepared visitors, leading to severe trail overcrowding, trash buildup, and destroyed alpine vegetation.
As an adventure photographer, I do not promote geotagging and and educate my clients on Leave No Trace principles. My goal is to capture your unforgettable moments while protecting these fragile wild spaces so they stay pristine for years to come.
